Software Freedom Day 2025 - What's going on!

Welcome to Software Freedom Day 2025.

I'll be posting highlights from the day as well as information about ongoing events here. I'll also share ways you can participate even if you don't have a local SFD 2025 event. Want more in depth chatter about Software Freedom Day? Join the #SoftwareFreedomDay channel on Matrix for live conversations.

If you or your group is participating in SFD 2025, please send me links to any multimedia you want to share related to your events. I'll be adding highlights from events this year to this page. Also, please post information about Software Freedom Day to the social media channels you participate in using the #SFD2025 and #SoftwareFreedomDay2025 hashtags. The DFF will boost any related posts they say with those tags.

Opening Video for SFD 2025

Here's the opening talk for Software Freedom Day 2025. It's a video on the Early Beginnings of Software Freedom Day:

While the board members and teams have changed over the years, one thing has not. Our love of Free Software has remained a constant in all the SFD events over the years.

Free Software Links

I'd like to start things off by offering some lists of Free Software resources. Feel free to share them with others.

How to find SFD events to attend

Want to find out if there's a local Software Freedom Day event in your area? Check our map of events:
https://digitalfreedoms.org/en/sfd/archive?view=list

If you can't find a local event, there are also some virtual events going on and I'll be sharing links to them here:
https://digitalfreedoms.org/en/sfd/events/pbsfg-virtual-sfd-2025

Be sure to check back here for any other last minute information on events, online activities and FLOSS resources.

SFD Multimedia and Resources Links

The rest of this post will be dedicated to sharing SFD groups' multimedia and FOSS resource related links.

Designs for printable SFD logos are available here:

If you have a printer and some printable mailing label sheets, you can create your stickers with them as needed.

Sam organized for Software Freedom Day last year. This year he wrote a Digital Freedom Song. Please share your Free Software related multimedia creations here as well. The license is CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 so feel free to share the video at your local Software Freedom Day events.

Create your Software Freedom Day Mascot - Huion Challenge 2025

This year again, Huion is generously supporting Software Freedom Day (SFD) by donating a Kamvas Pro 16 (4K), a Kamvas Pro 12 for the runner up and two Inspiroy Frego M tablets for the next best submissions in our creative challenge. The challenge invites participants worldwide to create a mascot for Software Freedom Day using Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). Entries must be submitted by October 20, 2025, and adhere to specific guidelines, including using only FOSS tools and sharing the source files under Creative Commons licenses.

Huion’s participation highlights their commitment to digital freedom and creativity, encouraging artists to explore and express these values through their art.
