Art for Digital Freedom Huion Challenge 2024

Huion is generously supporting the Software Freedom Day (SFD) 2024 by donating a Kamvas 12 Pro for the main prize and two Inspiroy H950P tablets for runners-up in a graphics challenge. The challenge invites participants worldwide to create original artwork using Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) on the theme of digital autonomy and freedom. Entries must be submitted by October 17, 2024, and adhere to specific guidelines, including using only FOSS tools and sharing the source files under Creative Commons licenses.

Huion’s participation highlights their commitment to digital freedom and creativity, encouraging artists to explore and express these values through their art.

So you want to participate in the challenge? Whip up your copy of Krita, Inkscape, Blender or other FOSS creative graphics tool and unleash your artistic demons!

Theme: Express the joy and importance of digital autonomy and freedom through art.

Eligibility:

• Open to all participants or organizers of Software Freedom Day worldwide - including people joining online (e.g. through our Matrix channel  or by using hastag #SoftwareFreedomDay2024 on social media and mentioning us on Mastodon, LinkedIn, Facebook, or X) .

• Upon entry, you give up what event location you visited (virtually of physically).

• Every person can submit one entry.

Guidelines:

1. Create an original image using Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) such as Krita, GIMP, Inkscape, or MyPaint.

2. The artwork should creatively express the joy and importance of digital autonomy and freedom in some form.

3. Submissions must be in high-resolution digital format (.png or .jpg preferred - resolution 1920x1080).

4. Images must be shared in their source format (e.g., .kra, .xcf, .svg).

5. The image will be made available under one of the following licenses: CC-BY 4.0, CC-BY-SA 4.0, or CC-BY-ND 4.0.

6. No proprietary elements (fonts, clip art, photos) can be used to ensure the freedom to share, unless you created them and also grant permission to use them in the product.

• Adherence to the theme and guidelines

• Creativity and originality

• Technical skill and use of FOSS tools

How to Enter:

• Submit your entry (form below)

• Include the original file

• Include your name, team name, and the software used to create the artwork.

Winner Selection:

1. The Digital Freedom Foundation board will shortlist the top 5 entries.

2. These entries will be forwarded anonymously to Huion for final judging.

3. Winners will be contacted via email and announced on our social media channels.

Customs Duties: Winners are responsible for any customs duties in their respective countries. Huion has warehouses in most countries, and only a few countries and regions will involve customs duties, such as Peru, Colombia, Southeast Asia, Turkey, etc.
