Winners of the Software Freedom Day Huion Art Challenge 2025

Did you participate in Software Freedom Day last fall? If so, you’ve probably heard about Huion supporting the event by awarding some fantastic prizes to artists who got creative with Free Software.

Janka from Hungary took home the first prize, while Deffy from the USA and Yue from Malaysia were our talented runners-up. Congratulations to all three of you!

Missed the competition this year? Don’t worry—keep an eye on the site, as we’ll be celebrating Software Freedom Day again in 2025. And who knows? There might be exciting new challenges waiting for you!

First Prize: Draw Yourself Wings (Janka, Hungary)

Janka with Huion tablet At just 18 years old, Janka amazed us with her thematic artwork featuring a young woman giving herself wings using a graphics tablet. The jury was especially impressed by the thoughtful color palette and the joy radiating from the piece. Created using Krita, this artwork beautifully highlights the power of the brush tool in this remarkable software.

Runner-Up: Project Evee (Deffy, USA)

The second prize went to a work that truly needs to be seen in motion to be fully appreciated—it’s a 3D project created in Blender. Deffy, an avid experimenter with this incredible tool, chose to incorporate a graphics tablet into her design. The colors bursting through the walls evoke a sense of limitless creative freedom. Upon receiving her prize, she eagerly jumped into exploring Blender's grease pencil tool.

Runner-Up: Untitled (Yue Xin, Malaysia)

Untitled work by Yue Xin

Our youngest participant, just 15 years old, created this stunning piece of art. Using Krita, Yue Xin crafted a vibrant and joyous explosion of layers and elements. The piece features butterflies and birds intertwined with graphics tablets, symbolizing artistic freedom and creativity.

Unfortunately, we’ve been unable to contact Yue Xin. If you know this talented artist, please reach out to us so we can ensure she receives her well-deserved prize!
