The agglomerate consists of Kathmandu Metropolitan City at its core, and its sister cities [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patan,_Nepal|Patan], [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirtipur|Kirtipur], [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madhyapur_Thimi|Thimi], and [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bhaktapur_municipality|Bhaktapur]. It also includes the recently recognized urban areas of [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shankharapur_municipality|Shankhapur], [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karyabinayak_municipality|Karyabinay...], and [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Champapur_municipality|Champapur].[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panauti|Panauti], [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dhulikhel|Dhulikhel], and [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banepa|Banepa] are satellite urban areas of Kathmandu located just outside the [valley]. Kathmandu is also known informally as 'KTM' or the 'tri-city'.
