Building AI We Can All Own

Software Freedom Day 2026 in Ghana will be a full-day celebration centered on Artificial Intelligence, open-source innovation, digital skills, and practical learning.

This year’s celebration will bring together technology enthusiasts, developers, students, open-source advocates, professionals, innovators, and members of the wider community to explore how AI and open technologies can support innovation, skills development, and locally relevant solutions in Ghana and across Africa.

The event will be structured into three main sessions throughout the day:

Session 1 – Conversations, Keynotes & Knowledge Sharing
The opening session will feature talks, presentations, and discussions on Artificial Intelligence, Free and Open Source Software, emerging technologies, responsible innovation, digital freedom, and the opportunities these technologies present for Ghana.

Session 2 – Practical Training & Workshops
Participants will take part in hands-on workshops and training sessions designed to build practical skills. Sessions will explore areas such as AI tools, open-source software, development platforms, digital creativity, cybersecurity, data, and other emerging technologies.

Session 3 – Innovation, Community & Collaboration
The final session will focus on showcasing ideas, community projects and innovative solutions while creating opportunities for networking, collaboration, mentorship, and conversations on how Ghana’s open-source community can contribute to the future of technology and AI.

Software Freedom Day 2026 Ghana will go beyond celebrating software freedom. It will provide a space to learn, experiment, build, connect and inspire the next generation of innovators, while promoting the values of openness, collaboration, accessibility and responsible technology.
