Description

Namaste!

This year, we're doing something truly special for Software Freedom Day. We're heading to the beautiful Gosaikunda Lake in Nepal for a unique celebration of open source and a shared journey. We'd love for you to join us on this adventure.

Software Freedom Day is a time to celebrate the power of free and open-source software. It's about collaboration, innovation, and the freedom to share knowledge openly.

Why is this so important?

Open-source software empowers us all. It allows developers to learn, build, and improve on existing projects without limitations. This collaborative spirit has led to some of the most innovative technology we use every day, from the operating systems on our phones to the software that powers the internet. When we celebrate software freedom, we're celebrating a world where knowledge is a shared resource, not a private commodity.

Our Trek Itinerary

This trek is designed for anyone who loves the outdoors and wants to connect with fellow open-source enthusiasts.

  • September 18th: Everyone will gather at Machapokhari Buspark at 7 AM. We'll travel by bus or jeep from Machhapokhari to Dhunche (about 7 hours), then begin our trek with a 5-hour hike to Deurali.
  • September 19th: We'll continue our journey with a 7.5-hour trek from Deurali to Lauribinayak.
  • September 20th: This is the big day! We'll hike up to Gosaikunda Lake, gather at the viewpoint to share our personal open-source stories, take some photos, and then trek back to Deurali. This will be a full day, about 9 hours of trekking.
  • September 21st: We'll make our way from Deurali back to Dhunche and then head back to Kathmandu.

Difficulty Level:

  • For unxperienced/first-timers: This is a moderate trek, but completely achievable if you come prepared.
  • For experienced trekkers: It will be an easy and enjoyable trek.

We believe that everyone's contribution to the open-source community is valuable, no matter how small. This celebration is an opportunity to connect, share our journeys, and enjoy the stunning natural beauty around us.

Please note: This is a self-funded trip, so everyone will be responsible for their own expenses. Please make sure you have the right gear for trekking.
