Software Freedom Day 2026: Students in the Open Source Ecosystem
Software Freedom Day (SFD) is an annual international event held on the third Saturday of September, bringing together hundreds of cities worldwide to celebrate and spread the value of free and open-source software.
In Vietnam, the event has been successfully organized continuously since 2012 under the auspices of the Vietnam Free and Open Source Software Club (VFOSSA) of the Vietnam Association of Informatics, with the support of many ministries, departments, institutes, universities, and the technology business community.
This year, VFOSSA will collaborate with the Banking Academy and the Faculty of Information Technology & Digital Economics to organize the event with the main message: “Open Technology - Open Knowledge - Open Opportunities - Open Future”.
Meaning of the message: 4 Pillars Shaping the Digital Future
Open Technology: Creating opportunities for students to access and explore open-source technologies being applied and developed in practice, from open-source software and blockchain to artificial intelligence (AI), thereby better understanding the potential of open technology in learning, research, and product development.
Open Knowledge: Spreading the spirit of learning, sharing, and collaboration through perspectives and practical experiences from experts, the technology community, and businesses, while encouraging students to proactively learn, practice, and share knowledge.
Open Opportunities: Connecting students with experts, the community, and businesses in the open technology ecosystem, helping them access real-world problems, explore new development directions, and expand learning, research, and career opportunities in the future.
Open Future: Encouraging the younger generation not only to use technology but also to gradually participate in building, developing, and contributing to open technologies, thereby enhancing their technological mastery, innovative thinking, and ability to participate in Vietnam's digital technology development process.
