Software Freedom Day 2026 - Aleppo

Software Freedom Day Aleppo 2026 brings the worldwide celebration of free and open source software to Aleppo. It is one day with two events under one roof: Software Freedom Day and Tech Harvest Demo Day.

Free software is about the freedom to use, study, share and improve the tools we depend on. Our aim is to help young people in Aleppo see open source as more than software to download. It is a way to learn, build and contribute together, and a foundation for a local tech community built on collaboration and innovation. The day is meant for students, developers, academics and civil society, and no prior experience is needed.

What's on

• Talks introducing free and open source software, and how to start using it and contributing to it.
• An interactive exhibition where visitors can explore open source tools and try them hands-on.
• InstallFest: a practical lab where volunteers help you install free software on your own laptop.
• Games and challenges that make learning playful.
• Tech Harvest Demo Day: an exhibition of seven youth-built projects, developed at TechnoLab from real community problems into working prototypes. A jury evaluates the projects, and the strongest receive incubation seats. Visitors can test the prototypes and give feedback.
• Closing ceremony honouring the participating teams and celebrating their stories, from the first idea to a working prototype.

We are celebrating on 30 September, shortly after the official Software Freedom Day on 19 September, so that it coincides with Tech Harvest Demo Day.
