Pyatigorsk ([http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_language|Russian]: Пятиго́рск) is a [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Types_of_inhabited_localities_in_Rus...] in [Krai] on the [River], about 20 kilometers (12 mi) from [Vody]. Since 19 January 2010 it has been the administrative center of [Caucasian Federal District] of [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russia|Russia].

The name Pyatigorsk means 'five mountains' in Russian and is so called because of the five peaks of the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beshtau|Beshtau] (which also means 'five mountains' in [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkic_languages|Turkic]) of the [mountain range] overlooking the city. It was founded in 1780, and has been a health spa with [springs] since 1803. The Russian poet [Lermontov] was shot in a [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duel|duel] at Pyatigorsk on 27 July 1841.
