Kathmandu ([http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nepali_language|Nepali]: काठमांडौ, pronounced: [[kɑːʈʰ.mɑːɳ.ɖuː]]; [Bhasa]: येँ महानगरपालिका) is the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capital_(political)|capital] and largest [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metropolis|metropolitan] city of [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nepal|Nepal]. The city is the urban core of the [Valley] in the Himalayas, which also contains two sister cities namely [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patan,_Lalitpur|Patan] or [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lalitpur|Lalitpur], 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) to its southeast (an ancient city of fine arts and crafts) and [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bhaktapur|Bhaktapur], 14 kilometres (8.7 mi) to its east (city of devotees). It is also acronymed as 'KTM' and named 'tri-city'. Kathmandu valley is only slightly smaller than Singapore in terms of area.
